The biggest event of international education in Latin America
Every year more than 60% of the brazilian students who will study abroad have ages between 15 and 35. To learn more about those travelers, the organization of the Salão do Estudante, the biggest event of international education in Latin America, which in 18 years go through the main Brazilian capitals offering courses abroad, made available on the event website a questionnaire that show a little more about that audience. The study lasted 40 days and covered nearly 60,000 questionnaires. Students from across Brazil participated in the survey which revealed data about destinations, length of stay in the country, which courses preferred by Brazilians, accommodation type, age of the students and forms and conditions of payment chosen.
It is known that this student is aged between 15 and 35. The level of education varies with age, but 60% of students who are interested in the experience have at least completed high school. The most popular courses are in order Language Courses, Undergraduate, Graduate, and High-School. When it comes to destination, there is the U.S., followed by Canada's very close. Thirdly UK and Australia. The residence time in the country chosen is between 3 and 12 months. Due to a matter of price, Brazilians prefer to stay in the family home. Only 20% chose another type of accommodation such as university campus.
40% of interviewees are economically dependent on their guardians. In the age group between 25 and 35 there is total financial independence. The research revealed that there was a 30% increase in public demand for such courses and Languages Graduate. Among the most popular countries are the United States, Canada and the UK.This is easily explained by the number of universities and postgraduate courses, master's and doctoral universities that offer these. Courses in Management, Engineering, Health and Social Sciences are the most popular.
According to Samir Zaveri, director of the Salão do Estudante, which this year takes place 10-26 March and will cover eight capital cities (Salvador, March 10, Victoria, 12 March; Brasilia, March 14; São Paulo, 16 and 17 March; Recife, March 19, Belo Horizonte, March 21, Curitiba, March 23, Rio de Janeiro - Copacabana, March 25, and Rio de Janeiro - Barra, 26 March), brazilian students seek international experiences in order to improve their professional curriculum. "Nowadays speak a second language fluently is mandatory. But do a specialization abroad surely will make that person stand out in the job market ", says Zaveri. Another factor that according to Zaveri also contributes to growth is the interest of other countries to receive Brazilian students. "The courses abroad are more affordable, especially for payment options and packages offered by agencies exchange, which pleases brazilian students. Proof of this is that this year the Salão do Estudante will receive a record number of exchange agencies, with more than 30 in total. No other fair offers so many agencies in one place, making it easy to search places and courses to study abroad.Furthermore, we have a group of about 25 US representatives and 25 Canadian representatives offering educational opportunities to visitors. Representatives of Governments of various countries will also be there", adds the executive.
Altogether, the Salão do Estudante will be attended from 21 countries (Argentina, Chile, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, France, Finland, Germany, Mexico, China, Malta, Ireland, UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Portugal, Uruguay, Russia, Singapore, Canada) and will receive more than 300 educational institutions. You can visit the fair and speak directly with representatives of these institutions. The event also offers lectures and seminars every 40 minutes talking about the education systems of each country, the different destinations, how to choose the ideal course.Directors, professionals and qualified students who have had international experience at the fair will be giving tips and advices on different countries and visas, accommodation, currency and about the specific cultures of each country.
