The University of British Columbia (UBC) (1908), is Canada’s global university. UBC has two major campuses: the magnificent Vancouver campus surrounded by forest, mountains, and ocean; and the Okanagan campus, located in beautiful, lakeside, Kelowna BC.Whichever campus they attend, students have access to outdoor activities year-round at nearby beaches, parks, and world-class ski resorts.

Undergraduate programs include business,engineering, humanities, fine arts, life and physical sciences, human kinetics, forestry, and more. Students can choose from hundreds of majors, double majors, minors, specializations and honours options to customize their degree. A variety of post-graduate programs is also offered. The language of instruction at UBC is English.

Students at the University can enrich their academic experience by participating in co-op (work-learn) programs, community service learning programs, or by studying abroad at any one of 175 partner universities in 42 countries. 

UBC’s vibrant student life, including over 250 student-run clubs, a large intramural sports program, and outstanding varsity athletics programs, provide opportunities for social and leadership experiences outside the classroom. UBC’s comfortable and affordable student residences house more than 6,000 students.

The University welcomes applications from both secondary school students and from students applying from recognized colleges and universities, who demonstrate superior academic ability.  

Student Services

Canadians are an ethnically and culturally varied group, and students from over 140 countries around the world attend UBC. That makes for a culturally diverse experience. Both campuses have clubs and spaces that help students from a variety of backgrounds connect.

Among North American cities, Vancouver and Kelowna are some of the safest, with a very high quality of life. The University strives to make sure that students can live, study, and play on campus safely.

All students have convenient access to health clinics on campus, with other services to help maintain your well-being, including confidential counselling services and peer-led wellness workshops. International students are required to have basic medical insurance coverage for the duration of their studies.

UBC’s Disability Resource Centre provides a wide range of services and support for students with physical and/or learning disabilities, including mobility assistance, interpreting, captioning, and facilitating accommodations needed by students.
