Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT)
The Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT) is a Category One, government tertiary education institution with three main campuses in New Zealand: Hawke’s Bay, Auckland, and Gisborne. EIT was established in 1975 and now offers 130 programmes at masters, postgraduate, degree, diploma, and certificate level across an impressive range of subject areas. In 2014 the New Zealand Qualification Authority (NZQA) awarded EIT with the highest possible rating in their latest evaluation; the first Institute of Technology and Polytechnic in the country to achieve this.
In 2015, EIT had more than 10,000 students, with over 400 from more than 40 countries. Our student-lecturer ratio is significantly lower than at a university, allowing students to engage with their teachers and receive support to succeed in their chosen field of study. The lecturers at EIT are respected academics and industry professionals, and our programmes are underpinned by lecturer research activity directly linking to their teaching.
EIT’s programmes are designed to serve the local region which means that in addition to programmes at all levels in Business, Computing, and Health Science, EIT offers exclusive programmes in Health and Sport Science, Tourism and Hospitality, and both undergraduate and graduate programmes in Wine Science and Viticulture.
The choice of studying in either the Hawke’s Bay, Auckland, or Gisborne allows students coming to New Zealand to select the lifestyle to match their study. Together with industry-focused programmes, which combine practical skills with a sound theory base, qualified experienced lecturers, the latest facilities, and an excellent graduate employment rate, EIT is a great choice for international students.
